Design the Future

I recently came across a book titled "The Design of Everyday Things" by Don Norman (https://youtu.be/Vyu-90u7sAY?si=pnsYMczBB3hzvXd4). After reading just a few pages, I felt inspired to write this post. The ideas in the book resonated with me. This post isn't really about the book itself, since I haven't read it all the way through yet, but more about the thoughts that came to mind after reading those first few pages. The thought came to my mind of designing a future for the next generation on a timeless canvas that everyone would admire and cherish. Let's "design" a bright and beautiful future for all. Isn't it our collective responsibility? We could "design" our lives, our planet, and more.

I know how to design a table, a door, a website, a product, a house, etc. I put my ideas on paper, plan them, and bring them to life. They are all things which I can see, which fill the space. But how do I design my life? Einstein comes to my help. He showed us that space and time are equivalent, the two sides of the same coin. If I can design in space, I must be able to design in time. The time "in" which I am going to live can be designed. So, I can design my life. But how?

To design my life, Stephen Covey's Habit No. 2 comes to my rescue: "Begin with the End in Mind." (https://youtu.be/A6aYaQgKpGc?si=QpSXYXv44TN6vv2-). Imagine this scenario: you find yourself at your own funeral, quietly observing as friends and loved ones share their memories of you. Now, consider: What would you like to hear from them? What inspiring qualities do you want to be remembered for? What meaningful difference do you want to make in the world? Once you uncover those answers, work backward to "design" a life that leads to your vision. We can use the same approach to creatively "design" our society, political system, economy, and planet, recognizing the interconnectedness of our lives.

To make our planet greener and combat climate change, I turn to a Disney movie, The Lion King. Mufasa, The Lion King, explains to his son, Simba, "Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. And we're all connected in the great Circle of Life." In Mufasa's Pride Lands, harmony between predator and prey ensures prosperity. Under Scar's reign, the Pride Lands were reduced to a wasteland, as Scar allowed the hyenas freedom to overhunt. He did not follow the ideology of the circle of life and disrupted the delicate balance.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed." Today, the overuse of Fossil fuels has disrupted the delicate balance, causing the climate crisis. To make the planet greener, the design principle is to maintain a delicate balance between carbon emissions and removals. At Hyurja, we are developing technologies to produce hydrogen fuel with no carbon emissions. Use Hyurja for a greener future.
